A Quick Dip into the History of Teaching (+ bonus)

Good day to everyone reading my blog. Since I, as the matter of fact, am blogging about both learning and teaching a foreign language, today I would like to tell you a bit about the history of teaching methods. To develop the methods we are using to educate today, linguists and lecturers have come a quite a long way. Methods which were used in the XIX and XX centuries will not do today, but it is nevertheless important to get aquianted with them in order to understand why do we teach (and are taught) this particular way and not another.

With the help of my following presentations you will be able to aquire some information about three methods of teaching a foreign language of the XIX-XX centuries. Enjoy and stay educated.

Natural and Direct Methods Of Teaching

Concious-Practical Method of Teaching

If you are interested in making presentations like these ones, I suggest you two services which are NOT Microsoft PowerPoint (which is a service that I'm sure we're all tired of).

Prezi.com

Prezi is a multimedia presentation tool that can be used as an alternative to traditional slide making programs. Instead of slides, Prezi makes use of one large canvas that allows for panning and zooming to various parts of the canvas to emphasize the ideas presented there.

The main difference between Prezi and PowerPoint is that PowerPoint is a tool used offline for creating standard presentations. Prezi on the other hand, is a cloud-based platform traditionally used for creating non-linear presentations.

Google Slides

Google Slides is an online presentation app that lets you create and format presentations and work with other people.

To create slides, PowerPoint has a comprehensive template library available, while Google Slides has the option to search for web templates. Both applications can embed and play images, videos, audio, and links. Work-in-progress is automatically saved in Google Slides and can be checked in the version history.
